New Noise Parameters
Measuring interior space sound is now much simpler with the release of Bruel & Kjaer’s latest application software for its 2250 ad 2270 sound level meters.
During planning and construction stages, Architects and builders must meet industry specified noise parameters, including Loudness (ISO532B) and Noise Rating (NR). The updated software for Bruel & Kjaer’s 2250 and 2270 meters is the first of its kind to feature these common noise parameters as standard, which ensures the users are able to specify the ambient noise levels allowed by the mechanical systems of buildings.
These parameters incorporated within the new software use octave band measurements that are compared against psycho-acoustically developed reference tables or “curves”. While the algorithm is dependent upon the specified standard, the purpose is similar – to define a single numerical value that assesses the loudness of the noise levels present in the room.
The specifications also provide a design standard for mechanics within insulating components, making it suitable for testing noise from air handling equipment (HVAC), plumbing, wall and ceiling materials and peripheral equipment (e.g. lifts and pumps).
